Whitetail deer are the most hunted animals in North America today. According to scientists, in North America and Central American combined, the whitetail deer has about 30 known subspecies. Every year almost 11 million hunters pack up their deer hunting gear and head out to find the trophy deer to take home.
Deer are known to inhabit small areas, but harsh weather conditions force them to relocate temporarily. Needless to say, North American Deer inhabit larger areas, since winters can be harsh. Deer that inhabit western areas of northern America are also known for larger home areas because the habitat is more open making deer travel farther to bed, feed and breed.
